Description
Reference 3548 was part of the first generation of Ellipse watches ever made and popularized by Patek Philippe's iconic 1970s “The $1700 Trust Fund” advertising campaign. In 1967, it was introduced together with reference 3546, whose case features traditional lugs. Both were initially made by the Baugartner manufacture and mounted the ultra-thin, extraordinarily precise and elegant caliber 23-300. Made in 18-carat yellow or white gold, these references introduced the elliptical shape into the Patek Philippe collection, and Reference 3548 was the most authentic form of the 'Ellipse that started it all. A patented chemical reaction “colored” the gold of these dials, and blue and yellow (gold) are two of the most eye-catching executions of this aesthetic. Today an Ellipse watch with a blue dial made during this period is considered a distinctive feature on a man or woman''s wrist, a statement of design and culture.
